Cassa Di Risparmio Di Firenze

SOLANGE FABIÃO IN COLLABORATION WITH STEVEN HOLL ARCHITECTS, Florence, Italy, 2003

In 2003, I was invited to design the courtyard garden of the Banca Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, S.p.A. I created the Digital Classic concept and design—a conceptual/communication design that later would become an architectural language for the building and beyond.

“The design of the garden is driven by the dialogue between digital and classical design forms. Computer language consists of bits and bytes. The bits are 1 and 0, the bytes describe the combination of these two numbers (10001 or 0110). This language of bits and bytes shared between the facade and garden, in classic elementary forms relates directly to the square and the circle, which are the driving elements of the “digital-classic” composition.” (S.F., 2003)
