Little Tesseract House

SOLANGE FABIÃO IN COLLABORATION WITH STEVEN HOLL ARCHITECTS, DUTCHESS COUNTY, NEW YORK, 2001

The design of this house is informed by the fusion of contrasting materials, seasonally responsive systems, and a distinctive triangular opening of glass on the roof. The wooden structure links an exoskeletal steel “L” to an existing stone “U.” A solar stack wall in structural glass planks heats the cube in winter and cools in summer, while PV cells assist the electrical system. Steel windows slice through the dark stucco on steel plate blades, forming viewing frames from the interior.
