presented at the 47th Biennale di Venezia at the Club Media

Recent advances in biogenetics that have enabled the cloning of sheep and frogs, have captured the global imagination. Will it be possible to clone oneself? Of course. Is it necessary? ...The answer is no. Your clone already inhabits our planet -or another-- and Cyberclone 2000 will find it for you! Through the Internet's reach and technology, Cyberclone 2000 allows users to submit their images, to match them and to communicate with their living clones. Cyberclone 2000 will enable you to meet your double(s) at a millennial event in New York City.

Cyberclone is an art piece created to find your body double. Through the internet's reach and tehnology cc allows users to submit their portraits and personal data, to match them and to communicate with living clones. At the millennium's end, cc will organize an event, where a selected group of clones will have the opportunity to meet in person in New York. The expectation of a future contact redefines the dynamics of the online dialogue on the 'cyclone', introducing a far more conscious exchange. Looking for your body double is to look for identification and recognition. To realize the differences is to amplify your dimensions. To recognize similarities means concretizing your existence.

THE LAST MANIFESTO

by Solange Fabião 1997

CYBERCLONE 2000 is an Universal Art Piece, in unpredictable mutation. Composed by human beings, CC doesn’t have its face unless one has the desire of participation. It is human nature that makes the cyclone move and each submitted picture connects directly to an individual making the art piece alive. The end of this century is characterized by the new technology where computers open a brand new series of possibilities of expression. It is the first time in history that the world connects overcoming time/space. The World Wide Web opens a new perspective of existence in which communication can ‘unify differences’ in a positive way. This Interactivity overcomes the manipulative/passive communication allowing us to choose a direction.. Is it true? On the other hand, a ‘fantastic world’ is created where truth shows itself relative and coexists with imagination in the ‘freeway,’ an adventure of the mind (Dreamtime-the modern aborigine). CC’s basis on one’s image and the idea of the possibility of a ‘physical’ meeting, limit this imaginative factor and make communication move toward a more ‘conscious relation’(expectancy of the meeting). CC, in this case an anti(cy)clone, opens a space for a pre material communication turning upside down the non materiality of the web. Does Internet mean a risk of cultural loss? Culture and their characteristics will never disappear since physicality and geography remain the motive of life. Each city lives from a complex combination of deep aspects like origin (history and tradition), geography, climate (environment), etc. Differences reinforce similarities and unity. Non materiality and materiality coexist. The unpredictability of CC’s evolution is the art work, an open/interactive object of human existence. Art pieces inspired on the CC are going to frame its passage until the end of the century. In Cyberclone, all the races are gathered with the beauty of their differences. The similarity/difference evokes and awakes the spirit. Looking for another’s body double...Looking for the most antagonistic is human nature, an ancient human feeling, the search for identification and recognition. To look for a similar is to concretize your existence. To realize the difference is to amplify your dimensions. We are looking for resemblance and difference -

the anticlone,

the Cyberclone in the year 2000.
